It's nothing new though. It's been happening for years and in one way or another has been repeatedly highlighted in the media. The real alarms bells to be rung are that NOTHING is changing to improve things.

True, SLB, true.

Here's another example of how nothing is likely to improve with the systems in place.

1. A statement from the NMC this week reads as below :

http://www.nmc-uk.org/Press-and-media/Latest-news/NMC-statement-at-conclusion-of-Johnson-and-Maggs-case/

NMC statement at conclusion of Johnson and Maggs case

Date:09/12/2011

Longest running NMC case concludes

NMC Director of Fitness to Practise, Jackie Smith said:

“The NMC has today found misconduct but decided to take no further action in the cases of Lynette Maggs and Sarah Johnson. We fully understand the anxiety and distress that the delays in the handling of this case has caused to all the parties involved and offer our sincere apologies for the unacceptable length of time it has taken to reach a conclusion.

“We are confident that if similar allegations were referred to the NMC today, changes in our rules and processes would mean that the cases would be completed much more quickly.”

I'm not as confident as the NMC in its statement that cases would be completed much more quickly today. Pigs will fly before that one becomes fact. It is at present fiction.

2. The case was heard for the final time on 5 December 2011 - but the records of that seem to have vanished from the NMC website, so you have to go back to 21 November 2011 to read up on the charges that Lynette Maggs and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson were facing:

http://www.nmc-uk.org/Hearings/Hearings-and-outcomes/November-2011/

3. The Lynde House care home where Maggs and Johnson worked was owned by Chai Patel - he sold it quickly once problems emerged and were reported in the press. He's now taken over many of Southern Cross' failures and is hailed as the best thing since sliced bread, in some quarters. He faced the GMC too - but escaped.

The Lynde House Relatives Support Group should be thanked for their diligence and for their attention to detail on behalf of all people in care:

4. Here's a report from 2009: http://www.richmondandtwickenhamtimes.co.uk/news/4784577.Care_home_nurse_denies_leaving_pensioners_in_filth__tribunal_hears/

It has taken years for the NMC to reach a conclusion - of misconduct - no action to be taken.

5. A completely different story - Selling off the Nation's health - but related in a way to the chaos of care in hospital and in care homes :
